School can be cool for kids with adhd:
As our logo states, a child who has ADHD has a circus in their head all day. Even though school might be a challenge for students with ADHD, it is up to the faculty and staff of the school to make it cool.
Students with ADHD are easily distracted and have lots of excess energy. Some school wide rules can help eliminate some "temptations" for the student. Here are a few tips to better the learning environment. When your students are walking in the hallway, instruct them to be quiet that other people are trying to learn.
Be a team. You, as a teacher, need to let other school staff know about a specific behavior plan of a child's, or even to let the entire school know that it would be beneficial for the child with ADHD to be very actively involved with whatever activity they are participating in, as it is important. This can also include having multiple meetings with the psychologist, principle, parent of the child, and other professionals included in making decisions to help the child.
Be sure to communicate with your nurse, as some of the treatments of ADHD is medication. This is most likely taken in the morning, and sometimes at lunch as well.
Something that can be done as a school is a school wide discipline plan. Be sure to not take away all of recess or physical education for children with ADHD. This could actually hinder the child and their learning. (www.helpguide.org)

Assembly TIme:
Towards the beginning of the year it would be an excellent idea for the school to have an assembly addressing ADHD and some other issues faced in schools. This assembly can be directed in many different ways, but one idea is to include a reference to a popular kids movie to show the children how bullying someone with, ADHD or any other issue, is not kind and will not be tolerated in an educational setting. This reference will mainly focus on the positives of a each individual person, not their disorders or disabilities. We all have our little quirks, our daily ventures to "LALA" land, and of course our moments of having "ants in your pants". This assemblies goal is to explain to the audience that it is okay because everyone has this, just some more then others.
ASSEMBLY ADDRESSING ADHD AND DIFFERENCES:
Now how many of you have seen the movie Cars?
Awesome!
Lightning McQueen is the star of the show. He is so fast and speedy, he is lightning! And he has a really cool paint job. How many of you like Lightning McQueen? He would be so cool to meet right?
Now Mater is also a star. He has so much fun going tractor tipping; he has a dream job of being a super hero “rescuing” others. Now his coat isn’t too shiny but how many of you like Mater? Wouldn’t he be a cool friend?
Lightning might be fast and shiny while Mater is buck toothed and rusty. But they both are very cool in different ways. Lightning is a superstar racecar, but sometimes he forgets about others and their feelings, he also is not very good at tractor tipping.
Mater is so friendly and caring about all his friends. He also is the BEST backwards driver in the world. He is excellent at tractor tipping. There are times when Mater is forgetful, looses track of what he about to say next, and is very hyper.
These two cars are different but yet best buds. They get along so well, and I think a lot of you would love to be their friends.
Do you guys in the audience think that Lightning McQueen cares about Maters buck teeth or rusty paint job? Do you think that Mater cares that McQueen isn’t that good at tractor tipping.
Most friends look at the positive traits of a person, not the different habits people sometimes have, such as blurting out in the middle of class, not being able to sit still, or lacking focus during a lesson.
McQueen sees Mater for the amazing and caring friend he is, not for what he is not able to do, or what makes him different. Be a good friend to everyone just like McQueen and Mater. So what if someone has trouble speaking English, is in a wheel chair, can’t sit still for a long time, needs hearing aids to hear, and needs help on homework. They can still be a great friend right? YES THEY CAN!
So focus on the good things of a person, not their differences!
